This is the last NYC Meet-Up that I will be able to organize. The fall semester begins and I will have Saturday classes again. We need to have someone step-up for September and beyond.

I say we have the Meet-Up at Lorelie's again, 1:00, Sunday, August 29th. Perhaps I'll have a prototype canvas sachel by then. Perhaps my Ti M6 with MP finder upgrade and overhaul will be back from Sherry Krauter by then.

The last turnout was big, and I expect more regulars. Had Dan come out from Long Island. There was a big representation of all three versions of the 75 Lux, a version 2 Noctilux. Mucho medium format. Rolleiflex and Mamiya was well represented. No Linhof's. Perhaps we'll have 3 M9's present at the next meet-up. Some people went shooting after the last meet-up and posted some great shots.

See you soon.

I'm gonna try to make this.

BTW, seems that weekend is another one of those Jazz Age Lawn Parties on Governors Island. http://www.govisland.com/html/visit/calendar.shtml
Should be a whole lotta fun, great for photography, people watching, etc.
If anyone's interested, perhaps we could go on the saturday? Just an idea...

Hey Cal, sorry to say I'm still shooting that roll of HP5... I've shot several rolls of TriX, but no 320 TXP either.

I just mixed a batch of developer. I got 4 rolls of TXP 320 in 220 to develope and three 4-reel tanks of HP5 to do.

I'm sure I'll have more to develope after this weekend. To me the HP5 shot at 320 looks a lot like Tri-X in the mid-tones.

I miss my Leica. Been shooting Nikon SLR while service and upgrades are performed.

Governors Island sounds interesting. I'd like to go. Believe it or not I've never been there.

I'd rather be there.

Sorry, Cal. I'm moving that weekend, so I doubt I'll be able to make it.

While it's just a whopping 9 blocks, moving always take more time than one can anticipate. Dunstan, I'm moving over to 49th St and Skillman. Still cannot believe we haven't run in to one another once!

haha, well chances are just that much greater now that you'll be only 1 block away!:D

hey Andre, i think i should confess that i've picked up a Retina IIa after admiring yours from the last meet-up. i paid slightly more and it most likely isn't as clean as yours, but so far it's been a joy to use. i love the all-mechanical simplicity of it. and i have to say that shutter is feather-light and oh so quiet! comparable to my leicas i'd think. the schneider lens also seems reasonably sharp. thanks for turning me onto these, haha:D

Scott,

Moving in NYC is traumatizing, especially if you are both a hoarder (was accused of singlehandedly downsizing an aerospace company when I worked there at the end of the Cold War) and a garbage picker (Stained glass windows, glass doorknobs, wrought iron furnature...).

Last time I moved there were all these comments like: where did all these books come from (My girlfriend is an academic). My friends and relatives were sorry they offered to help.

Good luck.

That Andre is always a source of GAS. The recent acumulation of MF gear is all his fault.

No problem:angel:!

I totally agree with your description of the little Retina's qualities. I had never seen one before the day I bought mine and i instantly fell in love. Hard not to, such a great little camera.

Bwahahahahaha :)

I have live vicariously through other's purchases so long as I am paying more for my daughter's pre-school than I did for my bachelors (WTF, this city is insane).

When we go shooting sometime you can try my Mamiya 6, but I know that you will unlikely like the 50/4.0 because it is a 28mm equivilent and 28 doesn't work for you.

Cal

Cal,

That would be awesome! BTW, 28mm is cool with me in square format. In 135, its not my favorite (prefer 35mm or 25mm).

For me, the Mamiya 6 with the 50/4.0 is the ultimate street machine when used in AEL mode and zone focusing. I tend to meter off the inside of my forearm. It is a very fast shooter.

The only problem is that I'm always reloading, especially when shooting 120. Too bad I only have about thirty rolls of TXP-320 in 220 left in the fridge.

It is also a great rig for urban landscape...

There is no need for the other Mamiya lenses. The Rolleiflexes still get plenty of use because they have that old school single coated look and nice bokeh.

Then there is Leica...

Pretty easy to share when I know 'm totally spoiled rotten.

Cal, you know I owe you some film. I can offer you some 320-TXP, a couple rolls, since it's expired but still good...
Don't know if you ever shoot color, but I have some Portra 400NC as well. Whatever strikes your fancy.
