I'm not particularly politically minded and don't really perceive much difference between the major parties these days ... they mosty seem to be right wing conservatives to me!

However ... a woman at the helm is a first for this country and makes this particular change of leadership a little more significant ... I wish her [Julia Gillard] well! :)

Turn on the News and its politics or sport. Well the politics have gone to **** but I can't fault the quality of sport *shrug*

last time i heard about australian politics was during the bill henson brouhaha. gillard did not approve.

but, still, yay for women!

She may not have approved but Kevin Rudd went one step further and used his political position to publicly tell us all that he found the images ... 'revolting!'

That was about the time he lost me! (wowser)

i'm just worried about all of the turmoil in the Labour party ensuring the lay-persons vote to Liberal and Abbott getting in, in the next election *shudder*

Yeah, that's my concern as well. The whole thing is just a bit too reminiscent of NSW Labor, where there have been 3 premier changes outside an election.

While there are many positives to come out of the shift, it still highlights the instability within the party, which is never a good thing 2 months out from an election...

I think Abbott verses Gillard is very different to Abbott verses Rudd!

I think a lot of Tony Abbotts's votes would have come from the people who just plain couldn't stand Kevin Rudd ... their perception of Gillard will be much better hopefully and Abbott will be shown for the twat that he is! :p

hopefully! the whole BER thing may not bode well for here, but we'll see.

It has only been a change of window dressing... this is still same party that oversaw the fatal home insulation scheme, the fraud-ridden 'Education Revolution', championed the 'Greatest Moral Issue of Our Generation' aka climate change, just to mention a few of the absolute catastrophes of the present government. It seems the rot in the NSW Labour Party has spread to the Federal Labor Party... just a popularity stunt by political party out of touch with reality.

I do wish our new prime minister all the best... for the sake of Australians.

Evidently it's WITHIN the party in power! Is that right Keith? We don't understand!
VS

Correct, the 'party in power' have had an internal ballot and voted a new leader, who then becomes the PM. But not chosen by the public.

Kevin was becoming, actually had become, a bad smell for the labour party ... he had to go!

This will probably wipe the smirk from Abbott's face ... for a day or so! :D
