I've been looking over the Fuji MF line for a little while now. I'd love to have a G690 and a couple of lenses, but that's just going to cost too much. The GSW690 would be great to have too, but still too expensive.
I might be able to swing the GS645W, but I'm a bit concerned about the auto-focus.
Can anyone fill me in on how the auto-focus works? Is there focus confirmation of any type? Can the focus points be changed? Focus lock?
Thanks,

You might be right to suspect the auto focus on the GS645W, I believe that it is a rangefinder with manual focus. The GA645 range has auto focus with a manual override which included 60mm, 45mm and zoom versions. I have the 60mm model which is a very competent piece of kit. I have found that when in AF mode, the distance readout in the viewfinder is worth keeping an eye on as it "can" give a focus which is not what I want. I have read of other users who mention the same "feature" of this camera, so do not expect that it is a problem with mine only. Manual focus is achieved by selecting a distance reading (shown in the viewfinder) from a limited number of distances. Having said that, it is easy to check and correct the AF selection and is well worth it as the results from this camera can be truly excellent.

Yea...I meant the GA645W.
Thanks for the input.

Hi -- There are a lot of photos in my RFF gallery shot with the GA645Wi you might look at as samples. I like that it focuses to .7m with parallax correcting and frame-size correcting framelines. AF is something I had to learn about, basically how to keep the camera from outsmarting me! So I now always lock focus on the desired subject or distance, then recompose and shoot. Works fine, and I like the camera. Lovely lens. Note there's an "i" at the end of the model name on mine, indicating the later version with second shutter release placed on the front of the body, and supposedly some improvements in the AF system.
