Avenon MC 28mm f/3.5 L39 vs. CV 28mm f/3.5 LTM?

Anyone knows the difference between these two lenses, in terms of contrast, resolution and sharpness? Which one do you prefer?

I owned the CV 28/3.5 in S-mount only briefly but liked the Avenon 28/3.5 in LTM mount quite a lot. I think that the CV tends to give slightly higher contrast photos.

Very intriguing combination of M4-P with 28mm framelines and huge (it seems) Kobalux 28mm VF on top of it.

At that time I was still wearing glasses so the 28mm frame lines of the Leica were of no help for me. The Avenon VF was really good.

I think Dante had a nice kind of review about the Kobalux/Avenon lenses here.
Long time discontinued and I was lucky finding one here for a good price. Since f/3.5 is a little bit to limiting for me I later sold it.

still wouldn't mind playing with a CV 28mm 3.5, however the Avenon 28mm 3.5 is keeping me happy until I finally get a 28mm Elmarit.

I find the Avenon sharp and contrasty enough for my need, only complaint I have is it vignettes until you stop it down to f/8 or f/11.

the VF is big, equally as big as the Leica 28mm viewfinder though.

I am having both, respectively silver Kobalux 28mm.
I am not sure about Avenon, but mine silver Kobalux has close focus from 1m, while Skopar 28mm goes to standard 0,7m.
But I definitely prefer Kobalux output.
The hood is screw in and it vignettes with the filter. Without filter with hood on or filter only it is perfectly fine.

What a magical coincidence which could only happen on RFF! 😉

This just came with Canada post!

Used, with some noticeable, but not critical play in the focus ring (the ring rotation is slightly stiff as well), solid aperture clicks, LTM, 1 meter, six aperture blades Avenon MC.

The viewfinder isn't big in this version. Easy to take apart for cleaning, all metal and glass. The bad side - it is little bit blurry.

I'm going to check how this lens will perform of FED-2 and M4-2. I always wanted to try it in Winogrand style, RF camera with external VF and 28 lens.
I don't need it to be 0.7. I think, I'll be close enough to pedestrians at one meter. 😀

I sold my Canon 28/3.5 ltm when I got a Kobalux 28/3.5. I love the images from the Kobalux. It is a wonderful lens overall. I have never used CV 28/3.5 lens, so I cannot compare the two lenses here.

The 28 Kobalux is even better on a crop body like the M8!

Sure, it has less contrast than most modern lenses, but more than most vintage lenses. A good mild lens that is extremely compact!

I sold my Canon 28/3.5 ltm when I got a Kobalux 28/3.5. I love the images from the Kobalux. It is a wonderful lens overall. I have never used CV 28/3.5 lens, so I cannot compare the two lenses here.

Nice shots, the color and light provide life to photos. Is this typical of the lens or a quality of the photographer?

This is an excellent lens in my opinion. It does very well with Fuji Reala film, and I expect it to do well with the digital Leica too.

These has been a good discussion on Canon 28mm 3.5 & 2.8 LTM lenses. Thank you, it is the first link that comes after Googling the Canons. Having the Leica 28/2.8 ASPH, I found it to be a phenomenal lens, very sharp with very high contrast. I wanted to have a lens with moderate contrast for use in black and white and some OLD school feeling color. So, I started asking in this forum and found these two lenses. I just got the most beautiful pieces of art I have ever seen: The Canon Serenar 28/2.8 LTM and the Canon 28/2.8 LTM. They came from Japan and are in excellent condition. Most impressive is the size of these lenses and their weight, relative to their size. I plan to explore and shoot with these two lenses and post some of the shots here. It will show the lenses' behavior on the Leica M8 and M9 cameras. I personally, like them both. Here are some shots:

There is a very late version of the Kobalux that focuses to 0.8. You don't see it often. It was a post-2000 version. It has a silver front ring, and a black focusing ring with numbers in white and orange. The latest 21mm focuses closer too, but that, again, is something of a unicorn. For most people, the minimum focus on a 21-28mm lens is not going to make or break a picture, but it can make or break your wallet.
