B&H Fire

Well, they have a lot of stock in their actual store, so hopefully for the more normal Leica stuff, so hopefully they will be able to deal with normal orders...then again, they probably package stuff to send out there...
 
If I told em' once, I told em' a million times. Don't leave the minorah lit when ya' go to lunch! LOL.
Seriously, I hope no one was injured.
 
I am confident that they have multiple warehouses as I have received orders filled in parts from them. Hopefully they have a solid business continuation plan and this will not greatly effect their operations. More importantly, I hope no one was hurt in the fire.
 
This was posted on the DPR forums:

"OK, I just got off the phone with one of the B&H CS reps. He spoke to his manager and they said that fortunately, it was not their warehouse, but one next door. No B&H employees were hurt nor merchandise damaged. They did have to evacuate earlier this afternoon so people like me who had orders and shipments pending today may have their goods delayed by a day or two."
 
The report said one minor injury and it was an electronics products warehouse and "some type of tool, like a soldering iron or torch, caught cardboard boxes full of television monitors on fire" to quote the report.
 
I hope no one got hurt.

I had an order ship yesterday. I just had to order more of that Porst slide fim for $0.99!!!
 
I saw this on the local 5 pm TV news. It was a warehouse in the one time Brooklyn Navy Yard now an industrial park. It was a four alarm fire, but no smoke was visible on the reportage and WCBS, New York did not show a helicopter view as they usually do with major fires. As of 5 pm there were no reported injuries. There was nothing on the 6 pm news or the 11 pm news which has just ended.
If they escaped damage, it must have been due to the mezuzah over the doorway.

Let's hope the minor water damage wasn't any Leica stuff. As for a fire sale, it doesn't sound that desparate.

We shall now take a vote between losing B&H and losing Leica.

On the other hand, I'll bet any Leica stuff could survive a little water damage a lot better than any wizz-bang modern digital stuff in that wharehouse!
 
I've been dealing with B&H for quite a while now (and am a happy customer BTW).

They seem to ship from at least two different locations; 34th Street, the big store, and the Brooklyn Navy Yard, where the fire was. Film, lenses, and consumable darkroom supplies have come from 34th Street. Bulky equioment, my darkroom sink for example, came from the Navy Yard.

Presumably film and paper shipments will continue uninterrupted. Good thing as I'm almost out of paper at the moment.
