A couple months ago I figured I would treat myself to 3 46mm B+W MRC filters: yellow-green, yellow-orange & light red. I planned to use step rings on my smaller lenses to go up to 46mm. A nice rational approach.

So far, our fearless moderator from the White North back alley joe has produced the only MRC color filter, a very nice 46mm B+W 060 MRC filter. The only place I can find on the internet selling similar filters is Robert White in the U.K. If I can't find a source in North America, I suppose I will buy from Robert White. Has anyone bought small light items from the UK and had them mailed to the USA? Approximate postage cost? Any surprises with customs brokers? You've heard the horror stories: $100 brkers fee on a $50 item. I would like to avoid that.

Also, I'm still open to buying nice used 43mm & 46mm B+W MRC filters. I got two filters from running 3 WTB ads in the last 2 months. WTB is a crap shoot. What gets me was a for sale listing recently for both 43mm & 46mm UV filters. The seller didn't search WTB first.

Maybe, like Magus says, "You don't need filters."

B&H will have these- and their prices are as good as you'll find in the USA usually. I've gotten most of my filters from them, they are here in a few days via UPS ground, reasonably. I like my 021 (light yellow) and 022 (less light yellow) filters, Yellow orange too. The yellow green hasn't done it for me yet on the rolls I've used it on, but time will tell. The leaves are really only just fully out for a little while now.

I haven't had any luck with my want to buy ads either, but at least they're free.

I will third B&H for B+W filters - excellent source. B+W also make very nice lens hoods, the attachment below shows a B+W UV filter and lens hood on the front of an E58 Noctilux.

Thanks everyone. I did search B&H, Popflash, used GOOGLE, etc. while all of the usual suspects have B+W B&W color filters, what they don't have is the MRC versions. They have UV and polarizers with the MRC feature. B&H has a light yellow MRC filter. My guess is that either B+W stopped making the color MRC filters OR the US vendors stopped importing them. I guess I should accept the fact that I won't get any color MRC filters and move on. Or, buy them from Robert White. Oh well. Another good product bites the dust.

Buy directly at the manufacturer's US online shop

Hi,
I wonder why you haven't tried to buy directly at the manufacturer? B+W are part of the german company Schneider-Kreuznach. Schneider-Kreuznach does also have a US-based homepage with online-shop for all of their products, including B+W filters:

http://www.schneideroptics.com/

Hope that helps. Greetings,

I'm not sure what carrier Robert White use for international shipping, but last time I did this 1/2 kilo was going to cost about 10 UKP using Royal Mail, but you'll probably need to pay some sort of import duties at the other end which will increase the cost.

However I'm guessing you now have a source that side of the pond.

I just checked B&H and see I was thinking of the MC filters, not the MRC. Sorry if I sent you on a goose-chase. I would try contacting Schneider, they may still have some on hand. I've been surprised at times contacting the manufacturer directly.

Wayne sorry about the picture. ;) If B&H don't have a particular filter in stock they will get it for you from Germany. It took 6 weeks to get the hood in the picture above. B+W have not discontinued the MRC filters.

peter_n is correct here- B&H is great at this. You might call and talk to someone there on Monday and see what they say about when it would get here. I have a lot of luck using the 'special order' or 'notify me when in stock' options on odd little pieces- just got a B+W lenscap this way for the 50/2 Hexanon.

I'll suggest ordering something they have in stock at the same time (like the light yellow if that interests you) and then you'll only pay shipping once.

Hi Wayne,

I bought mine at B&H. They are B+W and are MRC.

46 mm 060M #40522 yellow-green 2x
46 mm 022M #40382 med. yellow 2x
46 mm 040M #40388 yellow-orange 4x

Best,

Ray

Thanks everyone! As always, this Forum is a gold mine of information! I'm going to have my MRC filters yet!

Yes it does. The B+W MRC filters are the best you can get. I'm gradually transitioning over to them for all my lenses and I consider it money well spent (I have fat fingers).

I just bought E46 UV MRC from B&H about 3 months ago, and 2 others E46 from a photonet seller, kr3 and 022.

The comp factor of rangefinder is not that easy, sometime I forgot, ruined many frames, only if I have a M7....-:(

Other than the UV MRC, I am ready to part 2 color filters, if you are interested, let me know.

Agreed, B&H is a fine source with good service and reasonable pricing. Hoya, now joined with Pentax, offers good filters too, with their Hoya-Multi-Coating and now Super-Multi-Coating as well.
just a note
its very hard to clean hoya Multicoating filters well
it always leaves wierd smudges on their greenish coating.
i personally dont like it

I'll second this. Gradually replacing all my Hoyas with B+W's.

yeah!
cleaning the single coat hoyas are actually very easy and its all ok (so buying single coats are actually perfectly fine)

cleaning the multi coat hoyas are a big problem. and i still dont know what is wrong with their coat

i have moved completely over the B+W now..
