This may sound weird, when I've finished scanning a negative and clean up the relatively few dust spots in CS3 (much better than the lab or when I first started developing my own), I turn what seems to be drudgery into something like an action game of eliminating the evil things.
Now it seems according to this new study I may be improving the "contrast sensitivity" of my vision:
"Contrast sensitivity is the ability to notice tiny changes in shades of grey against a uniform background, and is critical to everyday activities such as night driving and reading. It often degrades with age."
