Back to the future: Stefan Daniels Q&A at LHSA 2010 meeting about the EVIL -Solution
David Farkas [re?]published a protocol from the Q&A session at the 2010 LHSA meeting at Wetzlar with Stefan Daniel.
IMHO it´s not old fashioned

Much more informative than most of the rumors I've seen. Thanks for posting.

Other supporting evidence is Leica's own blog - which has never before spoken the R word :

A mirroless Leica camera (no mention of sensor size) that takes R lenses and allows manual focus through an EVF.
Why not you should use an R-adopter with countless other mirrorless cameras at a fraction of the cost is of course not the issue, this is Leica so its an emotional product, not a rational one.

"Not within the next twelve months" - and the passing mention of Panasonic might mean another licensed device.
What is more interesting are the statements regarding live view and focus assist in the M10 - the beginning of the end of rangefinders on the M series...

Guess you missed this part of the interview:
"We will keep the rangefinder. I can’t imagine that those companies will restart doing optical rangefinders to compete with Leica. It could be something to keep our current customers happy also giving somebody a much different experience by using a camera instead of being forced to look through an electronic viewfinder."

The focus assist will work in the LIVE VIEW mode in the back LCD...
You can't have live view in the rangefinder OVF - unless of course you're Fuji.

According to what I've read on most Leica rumor sites, it will have an OVF. My guess is that they will use focus confirmation in the OVF for Leica R lenses. Just my guess though.A mirroless Leica camera (no mention of sensor size) that takes R lenses and allows manual focus through an EVF.

How many of these "countless other mirrorless cameras at a fraction of the cost" are full frame? I genuinely don't now, which is why I am asking.
Cheers,
R.

That could be but interview kept mentioning EVF.

If this mirrorless Leica that takes R lenses is full frame, then that would be a major product announcement.
edited: It seems to be full frame.
From the interview:
The good news is that we are committed to offer you a solution to use your R lenses on a digital full frame Leica. If you see the development in the CMOS sensor technology you will see that many customers already bought Panasonic G1 or GH1 cameras with an electronic viewfinder so our goal is to offer a mirrorless camera which can also take R lenses and then you could focus those R lenses manually through the electronic viewfinder. I’m sure some of you have seen the quality improvements of electronic viewfinders over the past year. The best one to my eyes is the Olympus one. And it will improve further. So, I think this could be a solution for current R users. Please do not expect this to come in 12 months. At this time I cannot commit to a date to do that, but we are committed to offer this solution to you.

Still, this seems like a risky product especially when you have people using R lenses on FF Nikon DSLRs. http://www.leitax.com/leica-lens-for-nikon-cameras.html
So, this is the Leica ME?

Oh yes. But we're still having dozens of posts and maybe a new thread here on RFF every couple of weeks asking why "those companies" don't make a digital camera with an optical rangefinder under $2,000 that is guaranteed to have our beloved red dot smashed
