I don't know whether it's because I've been buying presents for other people for Christmas, or that I've got an unexpected little surplus in the bank at the moment (that I should really spend on getting that damp patch in the hallway seen to) but I've had the most awful GAS attack the past couple of days.

It's not come to anything yet but I have very seriously been tempted to add the following to my already extensive collection of camera gear:

  • a secondhand Hasselblad Xpan + 45mm
  • a 21mm lens - can't decide between both ZMs or the Voigtlander
  • the new 75mm f1.8 Voigtlander
  • An R4A
  • An M7 (I miss the one I sold)
  • An M6
  • A black Zeiss Ikon (I have a chrome one...)
  • A Leica IIf (I have a IIIa...)
  • Several fountain pens - a Lamy Dialog 3, a Pilot Decimo or a Pilot Fermo?
So far, nothing bought but this is getting ridiculous: I'd enjoy adding all of them to my stable but I really don't need any of them. I'm spending too much time patrolling websites of dealers and classified sections here.

It's probably displaced frustration - I've only taken one photo in the past month: I need to get out more....

Wow, I thought **I** suffered GAS pangs. I was feeling guilty about buying (first) a Leica CL, followed quickly by a Contax RX with lens. I just sent the CL back (quality issues). Hopefully I'll like the Contax, but I still feel a little guilty. Reading your message makes me seem un-GASSy (relatively speaking).

One photo in one month? Thats really not THAT much - if you want to get cured - take one of your cameras out tomorrow and only come back after shooting AT LEAST half a film. Do that after every attack BEFORE you buy anything - so you will at least feel better.
And of course you don't need anything of the above as a photographer - but sure as a collector...

That's a nice list.
My vote is for the ZM 21/4.5

But before you do anything, print out the list, put it away with a date stamp on it, and make and agreement with yourself not to do anything but take more photos, say 20 rolls, before you can look at the list again and take any action. GAS is energy, don't waste it! Channel it into taking photographs! Then, when you reach the contractual limit, have a look again and see how you really feel. You're the motor, dude, not GAS.

After realizing that I was not that interested in digital, having only used my E-P1 a couple of times all year and never printed anything from it, I decided to stick with film.
The M9 was no longer an object of GAS 🙂

Instead, with the pennies burning a hole in my pocket, I blew the fund on a pile of Fibre paper,Plus-X,Tri-X
... and over the space of the last two months, one by one, all the Zeiss ZM C compact lenses 21/35/50/85 ( oops ).

I once had a bad moment with a 120 roll of fp4 and an old patterson tank, (this was in the late 1980's), turned out to be a defective tank spool, but in the dark it was a real bugger

I had a bad GAS attack this week and couldn't resist satisfying my craving. I bought a Canon 40d and a 28mm lens and a Voigtlander 28mm f/3.5 for my M... even though I hate DSLRs and I have a 28mm Elmarit ASPH.

I know the feeling well! I haven't been using Leica at all for a couple of months. I decided to sell off some gear and have sold what I considered excess including a 50 'cron and a 35 pre asph 'lux on Sunday.
Last night I bought a mint, as new 35 pre asph, I just couldn't help it even though I won't use it a lot at all. I don't even like the 1.4 pics!
I'm going to brave the weather and finish off a roll that's been sitting in my M2 for ages.

How much is the Lamy? They make very good fountain pens 🙂

I eventually gave in to temptation and bought the Lamy to satisfy my urges. It was £180 so quite probably the most expensive pen I've ever bought. I love my Lamy 2000 and really like the concept of a retracting fountain pen (I have the Pilot version) so couldn't really resist.

It arrived this morning and it is gorgeous. Very pleased if a little guilty still.

I'll probably wait a little before getting the Xpan, but I definitely think that's staying top of the acquisition list...

Yeah, I can relate to that. Fortunately, I sprang for a Contax and I am trying very hard to make time to use it. I have succeeded somewhat. Hope that Lamy has a cell-phone-like camera in it? 😀 😀
