After shooting maybe 10,000 images on the M8 and M8.2, I seem to have a bad card (inconsistent behaviour in M8, M8.2 and card reader). It's a Hama 2 GB. The files show up as having transferred to the hard drive but Phase One won't open them.
In the M8.2 it says 'SD Card Full' then 'No Valid Image'. In the M8 it shows 150+ images open to record, but takes forever to record if I try to take a picture, and doesn't always write then. In the card reader, it says 'Insert card in reader'.
I am understandably unwilling to spend $69 on recovery software without any guarantee that it will work, but if I were sure it would work, I'd buy it like a shot. Has anyone any suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
Roger

There are free apps out there, one is Recuva. I sent you a PM.

You get free recovery software when you purchase a certain brand of software in a 4gb card. Also there are lots of free recovery tools on the net. Give those a try.

It might be the card reader. I had a similar problem when I moved to my GR-D. I never filled up my cards enough to get to the point where the old card reader would not work. Got a new card reader and everything is working fine.

Try copy using Total Commander Roger, it's free. And get a Sandisk Extreme, it does fail but much less often.

Ambitious, but rubbish
There is a program called Data Rescue 2 (or data rescue II), for both mac and PC. It costs $100 U.S., but they will let you try a free demo version which will let you see all the files on the card (or drive), and recover one no larger than 500kb. I have read several raving reviews of it, however in my own experience it has not worked on the one drive I am trying it on (it may be a hardware failure, which is hard to recover from)

Thanks very much, everyone, especially those who sent PMs. Will try some of these tomorrow -- working on the novel today!

were you able to get this sorted and retrieve your images?
