I placed an order for a Canon 60d through a particular camera dealer and came to find out this company employees the time honored tradition of bait and switch.
If this site does not allow me to post the name of this company I will be more than happy to provide it to anyone that send me a private message request for this information.

Buy on price and you get people who sell on price. Sad, but true.

This has been happening since before the days when shutterbug was like a phone book(barely remember). A very important thing to remember is that Canon/Nikon etc sell items to their dealers at a price that barely enables them to make a profit. If something from one of these brands is considerably cheaper than the USA or grey market equivalent is at a reputable dealer (B&H, etc) something is wrong. Dealers that have those deals do everything from sell refurbished/used cameras as new, strip chargers and accessories out of boxes, or even just plain steal your money.
Sorry for your bad luck.

There are some camera stores which will sell you the camera at a loss, only if you buy all sorts of accessories and/or overpay for a battery or SD card. Some of these outfits advertise in legitimate photography magazines. When the word gets out that they are a bait and switch operation, they change the name of the store. Reseller ratings is a good tool.

Yes, fortunately I didn't loose any money as they canceled my order. This was my first time to buy a camera new, believe it or not. I have always purchased used from people on forums that I had learn to trust and respect for their care of equipment. But I couldn't find anyone with the 60d used so thought I would purchase new.
Learned my lesson. Either have patience and wait for the item to appear on a forum I trust, or only buy from Amazon, etc.
