Hi, I have a mint Rolley 35 classic but with a missing battery cap. I posted a WTB in the Classifieds but don't have much hope for finding the part (I've looked online, no luck). Any ideas on how a replacement cap/holder could be fashioned? - Thanks!

Do they actually have a battery cap? I have a broken Rollei 35 (not sure if it's a classic or not) and was going to offer you mine but on opening it up I don't see a cap, only a space for the battery above the film spool. I can't actually see any threads where a battery cap might be fastened.

Yep, the Rollei 35 has a battery cap. The cap screwed in looks like it's nothing more than a holder for the film spool but that's the cap itself. It has 4 slots, one can use a penny to unscrew it. There is a good picture of it here:

Btw, I found the cap! It was hidden at the bottom of the bag where the Rollei was stored along with other equipment. Turns out I just panicked 🙂 and ran for help before checking...

Thanks for the reply though. Btw2, does your "for parts" Rollei have a lens cap? (this one I am sure I don't have). The lens on my Rollei is 24mm filter diameter.

Cheers.

If the standard cap is like the Rollei cap that came with my camera, I'd just try to find a snap-on cap. The Rollei cap is a piece of crap that falls off easier than it goes on!

Well I feel a little stupid. That's the cap I have in mine. I honestly thought that the battery just slipped into that recess where I suppose the tip of the film spool actually goes. Just opened it up and, hey presto, there's even a dead battery in there.

Sorry I don't have a lens cap. Actually my 35 is functioning to a degree. The only thing obviously wrong with it is the slow shutter speeds that use the escapement (1/15th or less)
don't work properly. Could be a simple fix but it's not something I want to spend money on as I really don't use the camera.

- Thanks for the advice, I saw some 24mm generic-looking caps online. Also am looking at a rubber hood, those look pretty cool 🙂.

Andy, glad to be (hopefully!) of help.

Looking at the site reminded me that I have a lovely 35S with a meter that seems to need recalibrating/repairing (even with a fresh battery, the meter needle only moves about 2/3 of the way across the scale when pointing the meter directly at the sun.) If anyone has experience of the repair service advertised on this site (or anywhere else in the UK specialising in Rollei 35s), I'd be interested to know... Cheers.
