On a photo related note, one acclaimed wildlife journalist by Outdoor Photography and other publications, and was later eaten, was carrying a Pentax K1000 with zoom set at 120mm. The park rangers estimated he was going for about 30 foot distance to the wild animal. Does this make sense, to you?
Also, do Pentax zooms have a hard fixed zoom setting? My Nikons rotate without locking positions.

I don't know about Pentax zooms, but i highly recommend watching Grizzly Man - documentary about [FONT=Geneva, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Tim Treadwell [/FONT]by Werner Herzog.
