Apologies for the various postings these last few days, just had a very active period completing various galleries.
This one is of the amazing architecture of Berlin - surely one of the finist cities in the World for modern architecture. And photography. Please take a look and leave your comments if you like.

I must go back there soon - so much more to take

Nice pictures. But, as they were shot with a 5D, what are they doing on the M8 Forum?

Thank you Nelson
Around half the images in the gallery, including the two I exhibited above, are shot on the M8. That's why.

My apologies Nick. I should look more carefully. However, I could have sworn that you posted a note here last year declaring that you had sold your M8.

Berlin seems to be a photographer's dream.
I would hope to photograph the large new railway station and the signs there like airport signs for Paris, and Milan, and Moscow.
There is a photo in my office of the Berlin wall, and unusually it is from the old east Berlin so the wall itself is pristine. Of course all that has changed now.
As for what camera you used, what the heck what tool you used to get the job done and show some photos here.

No problem Nelson, and you are right I did sell it. The Berlin photos are in fact the last collection I did (last Sept) still using the M8, it's just I have only just got around to editing them all. And I think the M8 did at least as well as the 5D there - especially with w/a lenses.
Claremont you are right. I plan to re-visit this year as there is so much there

Nick,
Nice series! I am curious, do you miss your M8 or are you pleased with your decision to sell? I find I have a pretty good record of making the right equipment moves, not too many regrets for the items I have sold.
I enjoyed seeing your view of Berlin, I hope to make it there in July after spending some time in Paris. It's nice to know there is such interesting architecture awaiting.

I'd like to "attack" Berlin's significant architecture with a new Super-Elmar-M 18mm on my M8.

Kent, to be honest and without courting controversy I think I made the correct decision. I loved the M8. The size, look and feel of it and the fact you could use M lenses. But I did not like the amount of noise you get nor the fact it sometimes sulks when you shoot a lot, the fact it is not full frame and the not so long battery life.
I am very happy with the 5D Mk II. The sensor is great and the low noise makes it versatile. I guess the battery lasts 3 times as long. I like full frame and I am happy I can use manual lenses (Contax, Leica R and Olympus Zuiko) on it. I use it not too disimilarly to the M8 - I rarely use auto focus (you can't with manual lenses) and as I have to do stop don metering I take time to compose a shot.
I still love my Leica M6, and using some of the great M lenses on that. I use it more now I have parted with the M8 than when I had the M8. So for me the 5D2 and the M6 is a perfect combination.

Nick,
Interesting, I'm glad you're happy with your choice. The choice of equipment, in my opinion, is a very personal thing that really varies from person to person. When you find something that works for you it's a pleasure.
I have a similar split in my camera usage, the M8 for street and documentary and my Nikon D300 for sports. Both are tools, tools that work for me but not necessarily for everyone else. I still use some film Ms myself, the M7 is going to get some Kodachrome work this weekend
Take care,
Kent
