Any one use a Bessa 2RC? I have several Contax lenses and was wondering if any one has compared the Bessa to Contax IIa or IIIA?

Would you buy one or get your Contax serviced? Or both?

I would like to use a better viewfinder with the Contax lens.

I've been wanting one for some time - mainly the same reasons. I want a CRF mount camera with a nice finder, built in meter and, this may sound silly, but I'd really like a swing door rather than a removable back for film loading. Ideally I'll have my Contax III back from service, my Kievs and a R2C to choose from, however, that seems unlikely at best...

If you get one, can I try it out? 😀

Bessa R2C

Wayne, I have a Bessa R2C, and really like it. There are times where having the switchable viewfinder and on-board meter visible in the viewfinder are really handy, for example, photographing people & events. Also, as you point out, the finder is brighter than the Contax, so the Bessa is probably better for lower light situations.

WRT the third question, I would answer both. For me, part of the attraction of the Contax is knowing that I am using a fine 50-year old piece of equipment that takes great photographs. The Contax is also better for critical focus/narrow depth of field situations due to the longer base of the RF. All in all I use the Contax more than the Bessa, but this is mostly governed by my choice of subjects, mostly static images such as landscapes, building interiors and a dog that has been ordered to "sit".
