Bessa/GF670 samples...

Well, may GAS got the better of me, and I picked a used Bessa III version from a forum member at an extremely fair price I feel. This camera’s shutter release is so quiet and motionlessness that I thought the shutter wasn’t snapping at first. I’d love to see samples of different types of film from this folder. I am in love with it.


Can some of you post samples from different types of film say print and slide? I'd love to see them from the RFF community.

No samples but we have some open box condition Fuji GF670s (Bessas before the rebranding) in the used department at B&H for around $1350. Light a fire to that GAS of yours and shoot some film!

Any Black versions?

BTW your Broadway, Brooklyn series is awesome. My old stomping ground. Still have family on Bedford Ave on the Norhside. What camera were you using for that series?

I'd still take a Mamiya all day over the GF670/Bessa, but if you're willing to sacrifice some robustness for portability I'm sure the lens won't disappoint.

Not going to post the same stuff again. Look for the "Update on Aussie Travelling Bessa" thread where a number of people gave their impressions - and their opinions. This is RFF after all!

I love this camera, by far my favourite MF camera.

Hasselblad ELX. It was about 2 years of shooting intermittently. I sold the Hassy and now own a Fuji GA645. But I'd rather have the GF670...can't afford it though because I preordered an X100. I'm exploring digital more right now.

If you go to <http://gallery.me.com/lmyoudale#100252> there are a few shots I took while testing the Bessa III. The first two mono are Delta 3200 at box speed and using the camera's meter.
I have other shots comparing the Bessa with my Rolleiflex but they're in another gallery. You can get there by backing up and finding the right set.

Never used slide with this camera, mostly color and just 1 roll of B/W.
Portability is just the best with this camera. I can carry it in my laptop bag when I go to work.

I've seen your work on Flickr. Very, very nice images. Your pictures of the Volvo are perfect in my opinion.

When I bought the Bessa III it had a roll of Delta 3200 set at ISO 1000. The previous owner said he loved that combo.

Question: when you develop do you have to tell the lab to pull to 1000 or 1600? The previous owner told me he used Delta 3200 shot at ISO 1000 and he lets the lab develop regular. Does that sound right? I always thought that if you shot a roll, and say pushed the ISO, you had to indicate that when developing with the lab.
 
Yes, you definitely have to tell the lab to pull X amount of stops. If you shoot it at 1000 and say nothing however you'll still get useable results. Basically, underexposed negatives developed at 3200 iso.

... and most of the other Delta 3200 shots on my stream. I shoot it at either 1000, 1250 or 1600 and tell the lab to develop normal. I don't even tell them how I shot it. I've done this at two different labs with identical results. Most of the time I use 1,000. What you get is a nice separation of tones but a high ISO to work with. Where as if you push Tri-X to 1600, you will get a lot of blocking in the shadows, which I love also, but you don't always want to do that.

Edit: I should say that the one time I shot it at 1600 and told the lab to pull one stop, I didn't like the results... extremely low contrast was the result.

Folks, this is the gentleman I purchased my Bess III from, and might I say, it was one of the smoothest transactions I've had. John NYC is very good to purchase from.

John- where do you develop your film in NYC? I'm presently using Manhattan Color Lab on 20th. Street, but just dropped 8 rolls off at Walmart in LI. I read a thread in the FILM form here at RFF that the processing is .84 cents a roll. Not sure that is what the price will be though.

They are a little more expensive than some of the other labs, but their work is stellar and they are NICE to you. There is no attitude in there. Just helpful as all get out and some of the cleanest negs I've ever seen.
