I shot my first roll of IR film this weekend and developed it tonight (TMax @ 7 Minutes).
These were just tests, but I think they look pretty decent (technically, that is!).

Any tips are appreciated. I plan to shoot more this weekend. This is a CV 28mm Ultron and R25 Hoya.

Indeed, pretty decent they are! Aesthetically too..

Thanks Peter, these were just tests, but I was pleased to see anything at when I opened the drum!

I guess all the reports of problems and difficulty had me worried. Next time I'll concentrate on the photo itself....

i have my second roll of HIE in an R ay the moment. i've used the CV 25 and 35 skopars and a b&w uncoated wratten 25.

what did you do about metering and exposure?

my first roll was for exposure calibration using the ttl meter with the filter on. exposures using the meter set to between 400 and 800 worked well. i set it to 600 for the second roll.

Thefsb,
I just waited for full sun and set F8 and 1/250 then bracket SS 1 stop +/-.

I was just doing a rough test in perfect conditions. Would you suggest 600 for metering through the R25? I can try that tomorrow, if so.

Thanks

I am in the process of scanning another roll I had shot earlier in the week, these are a bit more "thoughtful" !

I have a roll in the Bessa and am trying THEFSB's approach - metering through the R25 at ISO 600. I'll give some feedback tomorrow, probably after I develop it.

Man this stuff is really fun to play with!

Anyway, here they are and please - any critique or advice is welcome.

well, i'll suggest it but i can't _recommend_ this metering approach yet because i haven't validated it. (i tried. i shot 36 frames in perfect conditions with perfect scenes for ir and when i got to frame 37 and then 38 and beyond i noticed that the film wasn't properly loaded. :bang: )

what i did was take 6 scenes on a sunny spring mid-day in boston, meter them with the built in meter set at 400, then shot each scene 5 times at +2, +1, 0 -1 and -2 relative to the meter. the shots at 0 and -1 were the best, opinion was divided between these. that's how i wound up where i am now.

let us know how you get on with whatever approach you use. judging from the photos, you're doing pretty good so far.

btw: i think the R has a different meter from the later CV bessas so it may have different red and IR sensitivity.
