Bessa R self-timer

Is the screw holding the self-timer lever onto a Bessa R a left hand or right hand thread? The screw appears to be plastic, and will almost certainly break if I turn it the wrong way. Why on earth would a plastic screw be used in this application?
I understand it is a LH thread on all the M Leicas with a self-timer, correct?
