I was just wondering what the consensus was concerning the best all around 120 film color and B&W.

What do you like and why? Please post an example image if possible.

TIA (thanks in advance)

I vote for Tri X, as the tonality and tolerance easily outweigh the graininess in this format. Another great choice is HP5+. For more clinical look The new TMY-2 or Delta 100 are valid alternatives. In colour, personally I would go with Portra 160 NC or Fuji Reala.

I don't think there is an answer. Because "best" means something different for nearly everyone. So, you'll get many different replies, according to what each person likes about a particular film.

Which will leave you to choose from among nearly every film on the market.

I guess all around means "pick one that's the most useful no matter the light".

B&W would be TMax400 because it pushes better than Tri-X to me.

Color would be a negative film because of exposure tolerance and a bit of push too: Portra 400 VC.

Unfortunately, not the cheapest films... Maybe that reflects their quality and usability...

Cheers,

Juan

Ilford PanF+ is my fave medium format B&W emulsion. Also Tri-X, Neopan400, HP5+, and Delta 3200, when I need something faster.

In color, I like Fuji NPC, NPH, and NPZ.
