I have almost no experience with black and white photography. I took the photo shown below with color film, Kodak Portra 160, using a Zeiss Ikon with a Zeiss Biogon 35mm lens. I used Adobe Lightroom to convert it to black and white and to do some of adjustments. I also did some other processing with the image in Gimp.
I would like feedback on this photograph. Comments about composition and all would be good. But I want mostly to know how I can improve the look of it in black and white. I want to print it when I'm finished post processing it. This is a smaller version. The original is about 3200 by 3200 pixels in size and 300 dpi.
I see that some people who are good at black and white photos get more of a silver look and less of a black and white look like this photo. How is that done? Would that be good to do here? Any tips on how to wield Lightroom better for this kind of photo?
I'd appreciate any suggestions on improving this particular photo and advice in general on black and white photography for future reference.
Thanks,
Russell
