at the local pro shop this afternoon...lamenting the lack of local film developing and generally talking digital trash...

played with the m9 and the xp-1...and was surprised at the size of the fuji...much bigger than i remembered...lighter than the m9, of course...

i was surprised that fuji made it as large as they did considering the near perfect size of the x100 (what a great feeling camera that is)...

one sad note was my complete lack of desire for the m9...maybe if i had the cash/opportunity to really own one it might be different but i love the rd1 and for the money it seems silly to even consider the m9.

i look forward to the new fuji lenses so i can get onboard the fuji train but i was tempted by the body and the 35...

I like the bigger body... When u use bigger lenses such as a Canon 50f1.2 or a Konica RF 21/35, it balances nicely.

I have never like the heavier m or ltm lenses on my Ricoh gxr mainly due to this now being lenses heavy... But that is just me 🙂

If the guys at the store will let u, bring an sd card with u and take some shots with the 35.. Maybe u will walk out with a new camera.

But honestly, photokina is around the corner in September, might as well c what is announced by everyone.

Cheers
Gary

Perhaps will the photokina bring us a x100 sized interchangeable lens camera, for those who prefer a smaller size. I personnally prefer the xp1 format, i found the x100 a bit too small.

The x100 is lovely, but for better ergonomics the camera has to be bigger. The x-pro1 with the interchangeable lenses really needs a little more 'meat'. I think anything smaller than a leica M in physical dimensions is too small to be used as a primary system camera for a lot of professionals.

I'm always impressed how light the x-pro1 is. It still feels well built, but it just makes the typical dslr feel like a sack of bricks.

i don't dislike the body size...was just surprised at it and at my poor memory.

i don't plan on using my m lenses on it...just the fujis...

We happen to have the same lens strategy.

The Fuji lenses are lovely. Even the often maligned 18/2 performs well as a reportage lens. For landscapes it has to be stopped down. I plan to get the 23/1.4 and the 56/1.4 next year. I may add the 14/2.8 and the 27/2.8 pancake lenses as well. The camera will be even easier to carry daily with the 27/2.8 and I always liked the FoV of a 40mm equivalent.

I haven't thought much about the size difference compared to the X100. The XP1 size reminds me of the ZI-M body I carried daily for about three years.

I have the 18/2 and I'd be willing to bet that it blows the Olympus OM 28/2 out of the water. And no one complains about that lens.

The x100 is the perfect size to stash in the side panel of your car and have it to stuff in a pocket for a quick walk. But as you get used to the larger size of the xp1, you will appreciate it more. For me the x100 is my walkaround camera that sacrifices very little in IQ and the xp1 is for the true "photo walks" and more prepared and serious use (at least times I am willing to hang a camera around my neck).

Put another way, the x100 is my 35mm lens that goes in my pocket - the xp1 is my go-to street camera...love them both.
