I had the opportunity of seeing both in a shop in Seoul yesterday. The 7s was 2 mil. won ($1362 USD). Both were in perfect shape. Damn, they were pretty.

I don't know about Toyko, but Seoul is heaven for film camera buyers and users.

Were they original black paint cameras? I think there is debate about whether Canon made black paint 7s's or 7sz's.

Honestly, I don't know, but I would say "yes". I don't think someone would get one painted. A Leica "yes", but not a Canon. How could you get your money out of it?

Many Canon cameras that were originally chrome can now be found painted black. I am not sure that it is generally done with profit in mind, although that is possible. Original black paint Canon rangefinder cameras are rare and expensive. For example, an original black paint Canon 7 sold at the recent Westlicht auction for around $3000. I assume that an original black paint Canon 7s (assuming there is such a camera) would sell for more. One can usually tell whether the paint is original or the result of an after market conversion.

HI, To date I have only recorded one 7s that was black and it was a fake. Would tread lightly on any black cameras these days. One dead give-away is the lack of a white spot in the self-timer lever and the strap lugs usually being chrome. Worn black cameras if they show the slightest bit of chrome underneath I would be wary. If anyone is thinking of buying a black Canon check with me first, if you like, as I have kept a database of black camera body serial # and if it is within a batch and has the feature of a black Canon then it probably is genuine. Do I own one...NAH...to damn expensive, but I do own two dinky di black lenses. Peter
