I bought an all black Fed 5C on eBay today, I've never seen one in black before. Were any made originally like this? I'm thinking this is probably an alteration.
I have a black fed 5c that is factory made. I think many or most were made black and looked like your picture. I got it new with a nice case about three months ago. It has an Industar 61 LZ lens. I put 2 rolls though it but I use my early zorkis and Kievs for shooting. It is an extra camera.
Mine is FOR SALE. Anyone interested in a like new mint Fed 5C let me know.

A big German mailorder company had black FED-5 cameras for sale for a long time, so I guess those were factory made (making them the only Russian RF with exchangeable lens that came black from the factory...)
I received one last week. It looked like new unused stock. I haven't used it yet, but it feels cheap. The black top is definitly made from a thinner material than the chrome top of my Fed 4. Mine also came with a cardboard box that seemed original, only the 'C' was added by hand. Since then I've seen this in several auctions from different sellers. I wonder what te source of these 'new' Feds is...
And Pherdinand, I've looked at the usual sites about Russian camera's and none seem to mention that the 'C' is black; cfr. the picture below that I stole from http://www.halfhill.com/fed5c.html
Even if the top is thinner than the chrome, it is too cool to look at, had to buy it. A Fed 5 was my first FSU camera, and I promised my wife it would be my last---- at least for this year (that only means 35 days to go).
I agree. It's a nice addition to the family. But I still would like to know what it's story is. I wonder if there's something about this in the Princelle Book.
