Black Ikon, Did you cover the logo?

Hi

I've been using the black Ikon for more than a year, and now that the warranty time is gone I think I'm going to cover the white logo on the front, probably painting it in black.

Did you cover the logo too?
 
Or you could be an adult and not worry about it.

This covering the logo business is really silly. Believe me, most people don't care what camera you're using?

Are you ashamed of using a Carl Zeiss product?
 
i know someone that painted the logo with black nail polish. I t really looked great. (no it wasn't me).
 
Let me state for the record that I'm sympathetic to the logo-obscuring crowd. Not for stealth, which I think is somewhat oversold. Rather, if you grew up a certain way, it's kind of embarrassing to be spied in public carrying a very expensive item. I think of my M2 and M7 and kind of anti-status-symbols...I love to use them but don't especially want people to know what they are.

That said, I've never done this. I guess ultimately I respect the integrity of the machine more than I fear being identified as an owner of luxury items. But I still think I might fill in the M7 someday.
 
i'm with zeiss fan...leave the logo alone!

A simple way is to fill the logo with black grease pencil. The kind butchers use works fine; or if you insist, buy a German made Staedtler-Mars Omnichrom.

Don't worry about smearing the black paint. The excess will rub off easily. When come time to sell the camera, the filled-in grease pencil will wash off with a Q-tip moisten with water...yes water.

A tried-and-true method for 3 decades.
 
I would put a "Cosina" label over the ZI for modesty ;)

usually, I'd tell people proudly my camera is not a Leica

I agree with you. People could care less about what camera one uses, provided they use it well. I'm definitely not ashamed of my ZI. I love my Zeiss. I'd love a DRF with Zeiss emblazoned across the front. But I don't like gratuitous logos when I can help it. Mainly for aesthetic reasons than anything else. I've stripped the decals off my bicycle, cut the labels off my camera bags and so on. I though my black ZI would much nicer with the logo and serial blacked in so that's what I did. Having a problem with what one does or doesn't do to customize their own possessions is just as silly.
 
I painted in the white logo letters. Stealth isn't exactly the right word. It isn't that I want people on the street to not notice I'm taking their picture; its that I don't want the camera's 'bling' to spoil the moment.

I've noticed that if you lift to your eye a black camera with either "Zeiss" or "Leica" words emblazoned on the front, its like flashing a mouse in front of a cat.... it gets a LOT of attention. It doesn't seem to happen nearly as much with my Nikon stuff. Zeiss and Leica cameras are rare out on the streets and they therefore attract more "Hey, look at THAT" responses, which often ruins the mood I was trying to capture.

You must live on a different world to me mate. I often use mine in public places and I've NEVER had anyone comment. Maybe you only take pictures of other photogs who might have heard of Zeiss.

I did have another photog come up to me once and ask about it, but even he didn't really know what it was. Most members of the public don't have a clue and take no notice.

Maybe a lot of this is wishful thinking. Maybe some Zeiss users just like to think they're being noticed - YOUR NOT - JUST GET ON WITH IT.

Wow. You're basically telling him that your experience is inherently universal, and that he is making his up. Is there any particular need to question other members' honesty, integrity, and personal motivations over a topic as inconsequential as this one?

The least you could do, when flinging baseless accusations at other people, is spell them correctly.

I thought this thread was just a joke - but actually, its just you. (Oops! did I miss an apostrophe there - oh well never mind).
 
Why should anyone care if someone else choses to cover (or leave uncovered) anything on their cameras?
 
I stand with the childish crowd who have an inherently flawed, merely relative, personal sense of experience. Yes indeed, I prefer the NO-BRANDED look on most any camera, except the Rolleiflex because the stylized writing on those puppies does actually seem aesthetically pleasing. But because I do not have an inherently universal wrap on human experience, this is probably screwed, too.
 
logo covered with black gaffer's tape. but why are you interested in whether i cover it or not?
