Just wondering what LEICA M6 finish people like more CHROME or BLACK . I personally prefer a silver one, it looks just beautiful for me.
What do u prefer?

I used to like black, but now I like silver. Especially on the M6 and M7 with the red dot on the front.

Could somebody post a picture of their MP with a silver lens mounted? That will show you what I mean.

I like and have both a chrome MP and M7... I want a black paint M7 with MP appointments, including the "no red dot". I have used my M7 over three times as much as my MP and am wondering if I ought to bite the "a la carte" bullet and sell the MP and get the "alc". I've always got spare batteries and when its really cold outside, I'm inside...so electronics breakdowns have never been a problem for me, thus the 'all-mechanical' benefits of the MP do not impact me. Also, when I purchased the MP I hadn't realized how much more quickly I worked with the M7 and CLE. The unintended collectability of the MP keeps me thinking I should hang on to it, while the practical side says "Sell". And with the impending release of the M8... well, who knows.

On your point, I think the chrome has something wonderfully retro about it and it was what I always saw in the early sixties in my father's hands. From a practical standpoint, I used my black CLE a great deal more than my chrome MP in Italy... both for the auto exp as well as minimization of my (and camera's) presence (hence the desire for a black M7 with no red dot).

A friend enjoyed taking pictures of his chrome MP with his black M7 but really wasn't impressed with the pictures of the black M7 taken with his chrome MP! Nice "Stilllife with camera and flower" etc... kinda funny! He also has a tremendous photo file of his cameras and their boxes and zip-up leather cases with warranty cards... great for insurance purposes. His largest quandary now is what color his M8 will be... I'm with him there.

One other note seems to be that a general consensus believes a chrome body looks good with both chrome and black lenses while some do not like chrome lenses on a black body. If you've got chrome lenses that may play into your color choice of body. I like them all...

I'm probably no help at all since I like both black and chrome. Okay, one is more stealthy and one is more retro. And I could probably identify other points of distinction. But bottom line is I just like both.

I think all choices are equally valid. I support everything. I think everyone is just great. I have no preferences, in case any preference I might have might offend anyone.

You're killing me Bill... ;-)

Did someone hurt your feeeeeellllings?

Ron

BTW, Silver is best... for me, that is... but, I wouldn't want to offend anyone either.

I always buy cameras in pairs, one black, one silver. Guess which gets color film.

Chrome holds up better. Most of my new lenses are black and look good on either. Most of the old are chrome and I ignore the fact they look terrible on a black body.

Where there was no choice such a very clean screw mount body, I will add some black tape to the top and pretend the entire camera is black, ie monochrome film.

Why, no! I would never take offense at anything anyone else might ever say or do. I wish everyone a bright and blessed day if religious and a self-actualizing day of positive reinforcement and a gender, political, and race neutral general sense of well-being.

Not a cloud in the sky.

Depends on the camera for me. A year ago I wanted to paint all my "Russians" black. I've backed away from the paint can for now.

Nearly all of my oldies are going to be spared from "pimping," save one FED 3 that was bought as a parts camera and turned out to be mostly OK. That one camera is going to get stealthed.

I hear black gaffer"s tape is all the rage... Hmmm...

Chrome kinda gets the nod. More durable.
Black less conspicuous? I've got a black Minox and even that draws attention when you hoist it in front of your face.
Then again some cameras do look good in black...

thanks kenneth, it has a look all it's own.

i quite like the hammertone look but i wonder if i'd get tired of it though.

The matter of fact is that black is less noticeable (and I hate the dust and fingerprints on the black paint), chrome is SEXY(and durable)... Good idea to have both if budget affords 🙂))))

I would not mind to trade tooooo!

chrome is classic and so pretty, black is more pro, but chrome is so pretty....
