Brand spanking new website

Some critique about the site:

I'd like to see the photos you want to show off on the main page, the one that opens your site. When I look at your site, I'm wondering what you want to show me - from there, if I'm interested in your style, as judged by what you've shown me, I'll dig deeper.

On my screen, I have to scroll down to select the next image every time. Reviewing your photos should be easier.

I hope you don't take this critique the wrong way. I'm a web developer and a student working towards a communications degree with an emphasis in photojournalism.

minimalism is good but you still need more than black text on a white opening page. It looks like 'it's under construction'

Some new, some old, let me know what you think.

It's disturbing that, when you choose a categroy on the left, no initial picture is displayed. When you click on a thumbnail the whole menu moves down 1 cm. Should be easy to fix (in case this is no intentional behaviour).
But overall it's to minimalistic for my taste (didn't say that I could do it better).

I want something to happen when I mouseover the categories on the left. I'm a sucker for AJAX programming, so the categories and an initial image when I mouseover the categories would make make it more happening for me. Otherwise it looks fine on my 26" monitor. No scrolling around needed.

I like the pictures. About the site itself the minimalistic look is a little "extreme" but otherwise it would be not minimalistic. Probably not everyone like it. maybe a little texture, tone on tone is more agreable than pure white. Just my idea. As Tom said the movenent when you click on a thumbnail and the whole menu moves down is disturbing and distracting.

Maybe it's me and my computer, but I could get anything to come up by an announcement that one of the clicks brought up; "comming soon."

Good luck on getting the site up. Look forward to seeing it.

I agree, just move up the thumbnails so we dont have to keep scolling up and down . Otherwise I really like the simple design. And the photos too.

Thanks everybody for your input. I am going to change the thumbnails and make them higher. I made the site on a 24' monitor, and didn't even stop to think about how the site might register on a smaller monitor, or lower res screen. Oops. I will be adding a new index page, Just having had the time to sit and decide which shot i wanted to put up. Apart from that, I'm happy with it. For those that just critted the site, any thoughts on the actual photos?

Photo critique

Can you tell me about your photos? What they are about? For instance, let me know what your favorite gallery is and why. Then, I'd like to know why you show these certain photos and what they represent.

I'm coming from a photojournalism perspective, but even art needs the "why" answered. Some things are self evident, others not so much. It's hard for me to critique photos without some perspective and an understanding of what you were trying to achieve.
