I was watching the Jimmy Kimmel show a few minutes ago. Brendan Fraser was a guest, taking lots of pictures with what appeared to be a black MP or M7. He actually seemed to know how to use it, too.
Very strange.

From what I've read, he's been using Leicas for quite some time... apparently he's an avid photog w/ very nice images from what I recall...
I think his website has some pics (don't quite remember where I saw his photos).

He did a few episodes of Scrubs and in one he was using an older Polaroid camera...he look pretty comfy using it too...

Very strange.
Its strange that someone who is employed in the motion picture industry who spends all his professional time surrounded by motion picture technicians and lighting equipment choses photography as a "hobby" or whatever?
Im always surprised when this sentiment is voiced by people. Many, many actors have cameras...

Interesting.
It really was very odd, though. The other guest was a British magician trying to free himself from a straight jacket while his head was under water. He wasn't doing so very quickly, and Jimmy was getting scared. Brendan was moving around the set rapidly taking photos of the scene.

My last post was actually a response to jky.
I replied before I read WoolenMammoth's post, but that's why I found the whole scene strange.

I saw him buy some Leica gear here in Vancouver!

picnic like it's 1999
Several years ago, he had a show at the Leica gallery in NYC. At the time, he was shooting with a Leica digilux 2, I think. He had a shot- the obligatory mirror self portrait, showing him with his Leica- which was used in promotional materials, including a huge banner that hung outside the gallery while the show was up. I don't remember having much of an impression of that show, but I do remember the banner and related posters that were up around town. I also remember it cause I was working at the large format counter at B&H, and he came into the store and talked to me for a bit around that time... Anyway, he does seem to know something about photography. And Sam's right- he did seem really comfortable with that old Polaroid on that episode of Scrubs; I would be curious to see his photographs these days.

The best camera is one that still works!
I saw him interviewed a little while ago here in Oz and I seem to remember him mentioning that he takes photographs wherever he goes. Checking his website I wasn't exactly knocked over by what I saw ... considering the source material he has available regarding his career as an actor and the interesting locations it must take him not to mention the people he meets along the way ... I sort of expected more!
Nice guy though!

Some of those are quite good! I'd be proud to have taken them...

Theater and acting majors often do photo classes, I thought his photography was prety good, at least the stuff he did while filming the "Good American" in Asia. He probably has the $ to get whatever he wants too ;-)

He can probably afford a Noctilux even!
The Quiet American was a great movie ... Gods and Monsters was pretty good also!

"Flim? You want flim?"
He's knows enough to use XP2! And the site previously mentioned, http://www.takegreatpictures.com/Brendan_Fraser.fci , seems an interesting place with lots of info. I'd never heard of it before. Thanks.

I think he is really pretty good photographer - better than me and many others I know.
And from what I have seen/read he uses different cameras - Widelux for MF Panos, for one.

Yay, Bendan!
I always thought he was a cool guy.
Now it's confirmed.
Funny how that is. My mom plays bridge and Omar Sharif is a God to her, becuase he plays bridge.
On a couple of the motorcycle forums I read
this is the coolest guy around:
Because he's the first person in the U.S. (and one of 1500) to get this:
Limited edition Ducati Desmosedici RR (road version of Casey Stoner's MotoGP bike) $73,000
How cool is that? Have fun Tom!

Some nice photos there, and some crap - looks like my "portfolio." My wife thinks BF is pretty hot. Now I can show her this and say "look honey - Brendan Fraser is just as much of an idiot as I am!"
The shot in the middle of the TGP group - the aliens? Look like Lectroids from the 8th dimension, but they're not. What movie of his was that from?
