My Canon 50mm/1.8 looks a bit iffy if you look inside the lens at a certain angle. Today I learnt the name of the malady; it's called "Schneideritis". What it means is that the thick black coating inside the lens bubbles and creates a sort of black and white grid. I've seen it with one or two older Leitz lenses. I still use my Canon "Schneideritis" lens and don't see any effect whatsoever in image quality.
