Hi, just sold a Perkeo II but the buyer payed me $200 and not €200 that I asked. I had put €200 in the ad (with Buy it now option). How can this be? I mean, there's quite a difference in the currency exchange between USD and EUR......

Best,
Mattia

Sounds like a simple buyers mistake,

I’ve made that assumption before.

Strange, if they used the Buy it Now, is RFF BIN based on USD?

I hope this gets corrected, if it is a "bug" in the BIN-mechanism.

I like the option and will try to sell more here in the future as fees on eBay are getting outrageous.

You should check out Photrio.com

They also have a classifieds.

I have had a few members here give me a friendly push to join and Its a HUGE community. The setup is different and is taking me some time to get used to it.

Ill always be a RFF member, but its great to have options when it comes to selling gear online.

Agree, Ebay has become a sellers nightmare.

you should be able to return the funds and have the buyer resend in euro...

Yes, we've solved this without any problems at all. But this bug should be looked at by the web mechanics...

Ah yes, those web mechanics here. Beavering away on this issue as we speak.;)

Perhaps that is another issue that will be resolved when the new site architecture is implemented;)

But for now, the best workaround if using Euros or Yen is just to studiously avoid setting the Paypal “Buy it now” window here, as others do.
Just list the price in the body of the ad in whatever the preferred currency is. That works.

We don’t pay anything for this site as it is, and get a lot of benefit from it. Certain glitches are also free. Can’t complain.

One could also just list in USD instead of EUR, just have to recalculate the exchange rate.

I know the site is free, but to sell you have to pay $7USD for the ad. Not complaining. I really enjoy RFF as a forum!

Have you seen the PayPal exchange rates? Might as well donate the gear... ;)

Not to mention that a buyer from EUR zone would pay the EUR -> USD fee and then the seller again the USD -> EUR fee.

Yeah I know... I guess Paypal has to make money somehow, that is with both fees and "bad" currency exchange... Genius system ;)

Yeah thats what I do. I settle the final price with the buyer and then use Paypal directly. By the way, if your account was set up on a foreign (non US) currency, buyer may have both options to pay (My account is a paypal mexican or something, so default currency is pesos) and may still be a mistake on which currency the final transaction is done. This may be an issue with currency conversion so be sure to tell the buyer which currency to use (I lose avoid $15 dlls on convering from pesos to dollars because the buyer once choose pesos. My errror, since I didn't specified that).

Regards.
