Buying and selling the same item

Hello,

I've been a visitor to RFF for the last year, but I just joined.

I would like to point out a curious anomaly that I noticed. It seems that a member of RFF is both interest in selling a Contax 35mm lens (see replies #7 and #8 post: WTB (maybe) : 35mm f2 Planar for my contax G2) and buying a Contax 35mm lens (see reply #7 to post: FS: Contax G system).

Is buy and selling the same item merely a "flip-flop" or an alert to a potential scam?

Roger

Mr. ROGERS,
First off this is one hell of a first POST!

At first I was thinking of buying a the N1 kit that Trev2401 was selling but then after talking to my brother he said he wanted something smaller with great optics. He decided the G1 or G2.
This is why I want this kit for my brother for a little Holiday we call Christmas, you may have heard of it???

Also, I dont know who made you sherlock holmes of the board but listen here my dear Watson please do not assume you know whats going on because you have been watching the boards for couple days!
keep out of my Business!

and yes Trev2401 can back me up on this one!

Before everyone gets up in arms, I'm sure Roger was only trying to protect the community and was not intending to bash you in any way. Even is someone has never posted, if they have been checking long enough it is easy to feel a part of the community and want to safeguard it. The better choice might have been to flag it to a moderator, of course.

Flipflop, since you have cleared it up, maybe we can just put it down to best intentions gone awry?

Thanks Trev,

And sorry if my post was out of line...just thought roger handled the situation totally the wrong way...he could have just said something to a moderator....especially because it was his first post...
im done.

Collectors do this ALL THE TIME!

Users of Vintage equipment do this ALL THE TIME!

I will always "trade-up" an item, ie buy one in EX+ or better and then sell the "user" condition equipment to recover funds. If I think a camera or lens might be a "Little Better", at a good price, I'll snag it and then sell the one I have. Sometimes I'll sell first, then look for a better replacement. If I have lens with scratches/etc, I'll sell it and look for a better one to replace it.

An example, I bought a Leica M3 SS here on RFF, then sold a Leica M3 SS here on RFF within about a week. Bought a Canon 7 on a Head's-up, Sold a Canon 7...

I guess selling and buying identical items on RFF is not a problem unless you're selling short.

That would be too much like stock-trading where you can sell stock that you hope you'll be able to buy later at a lower price. But unlike the stocks exchange, RFF has no enforcing authority in place which will make you deliver the goods even if you stand to loose $ in the process.

> You bought a Canon 50/1.4... sold a Canon 50/1.4...

How could I forget that one! I was Canon F1.4-less for a week!

The new one came from Canada, the old one went to Canada!

Canada made out on the taxes with that one!

In order to make a gear trade work, I had to (reluctantly) include a Canon 35mm f2.8 lens. Some months later I was able to buy it back from my trading partner who upgraded to a Summaron (I think).
