Buying from Cameraquest

A question to UK people who buy from Cameraquest: How likely are you to avoid import duty/VAT? Thinking of ordering a few bits and bobs (getting on for $1000 or so 😱) but it makes less economic sense to do so if I get stung for VAT (even considering the current mighty position of the Pound Sterling 😀) I've had good and bad dealings with HMRC recently, some high value stuff has got through but it seems that they are getting hotter on packages from abroad these days 🙁

I got some small value items through no problem - but they were also small in size

It's hit and miss. If they're shipped by regular mail sometimes packages get stopped, other times they get through.

If however they're shipped via Fed-Ex you _will_ get a bill if they qualify for VAT or duty from Fed-Ex themselves who acts as the collection agent, and Fed-Ex don't forget about the matter either.
