I may be traveling to Japan for five days in a couple of months. Can any members suggest camera stores in the Tokyo area which might have Nikon SPs and lenses? What should I expect to pay for a SP/2005? Are prices typically higher or lower than in US for used Nikon RF equipment in clean condition? This will be my first trip to Japan, so any advice is welcome.

Hi there,
Here is a list of second hand stores in the Tokyo and Yokohama area.
I can really recommend Fujiya camera in Nakano. They have a good selection and good prices. Some of the second hand stores in Shinjuku and Ginza can be a bit higher in their prices. Not always though so check multiple places if you can.
If you go to Osaka by any change you should go to Camera no Naniwa in Shinsaibashi, the prices over there are even better.
Have fun.

I second the recommendations tensai gave. I'll also add, to see more Nikon RF gear in one place outside of a camera show definitely visit Sankyo Camera in the Ginza. Last time I was there, I counted more than 60 Nikon RF bodies on display. Quite impressive!

Thank you Tensai and Jonmanjiro. What a wealth of information! I will clearly have to ration my camera shopping if I am to get in any sight seeing.

I am actually headed to Tokyo in a couple of weekends.
Are any of these shops open on Sundays?
Probably looking for m-mount (Rd-1, or Leica, or Ikon)
?

Sunday is just another shopping day in Tokyo. Most shops are open to 7pm - 8pm.
Ohhh yeah, gotta be careful at Map Camera! Great store. They've changed the store layout since I took this photo with my cell phone, but it'll give you an idea. This is the Nikkor SLR manual focus lens cabinet (most of them anyway) on the 4th floor. There's nine or so other cabinets like this one on the 4th floor containing assorted bodies and lenses. Then there's stuff on the 3rd, 2nd, and B1 floors. The B1 floor has the RF gear. Map Camera also moved into the 5th floor recently. Enough stuff in that place to drive you crazy :bang:Zen-shooter said:Bring lots of cash because like an IKEA furniture stores you'll leave with more stuff than you had listed intended to buy!![]()

There's nothing like Tokyo camera stores! And even the small shops have stuff you'd never see on the shelf at a US store.

Salivating here.
So, are you allowed to touch the items?
Are the store owners friendly and let you hold the items?

Japanese style service is amazing. They'll go out of their way to pull stuff out of the cabinet for you to examine.

Long Live Film!!!
I'd avoid ALL of them, particularly Fujiya Camera at Nakano, (Chuo line rapid from Shinjuku, first stop).
It's an EVIL place. You go in, you'll feel it's POWER. It'll compell you to HATE the greenbacks/yen/whatever currency you have in your wallet, and to GIVE it all to them for destruction. In return, they'll give u whatever you desire. ( in terms of photo taking equipment.) It's evil i tell you. It made me part with 380$ last week for a minty Contax RX and Distagon 28 T*MM.
Seriously... Fujiya's an AWESOME place... FAR FAR FAR cheaper than map camera in shinjuku. A good comparison is the new VG 35 1.4, selling at 78k yen at MAP and 57k yen at Fujiya NEW!!!
Have fun... and leave ye credit cards at home.

Among the Tokyo stores, which are the best ones to find Leica and other RF (Zeiss, Voigtlander) equipment and accessories?
I'm planning a 5 day trip to Tokyo and would like to visit some of the legendary camera shops while I'm there.
Also, are there photography galleries and other photo related places one shouldn't miss? I only know of the Leica Gallery in Ginza.

For Leica, Voigtlander, and Zeiss the best stocked stores are Lemon-sha in the Ginza and MAP Camera in West Shinjuku. Fujiya Camera in Nakano is less well stocked but they have good prices.
