ok. C1 is pretty awesome, at least for Xtrans. i don't know how to do very much with it, but i like what i see. i didn't spend a lot of time with either set of images, though i did crank the highlight/shadow recovery up in #3. holy velvia, batman. hm..........

Why do people look for 3rd party convertors vs native, is it that bad or just to consolidate workflow?

I've been playing with C1pro1 beta and it's pretty great. I'm still adapting, but it deals with X-trans files very well. I do a lot of high ISO work at shows and it deals with the files very well.

Those photos side by side were an interesting viewing experience. At first I liked the C1 photos better and found the LR photos really flat and didn't like the skin tones. Then I looked longer on the first LR photo and then scrolled up to see the C1 photo. Bang. Eyes hurt. Oversaturated.
I don't really like the color of both versions and had to work on it to get it right. So maybe the flatter LR version is a better starting point for adjustment?

yeah, c1 is definitely highly saturated. i think it works very well with the fuji sensor. i've had mixed results with m9 dng's. sometimes the skin tones are better and sometimes they're worse than with LR, and some colors in strong sunlight are just plain weird in c1.

the thing about it is, c1 seems to pull out more detail.

more to come...

I shot RAW and Jpeg at an event last night. Today gave the CO7 Beta a go with some RAW files. It's buggy as hell. I can get things to look right on the screen but, as soon as I try and export them as Jpegs the adjustments go all wonky and pixel blocks become green and weird. Also some adjustment sliders get stuck and the screen goes all posterized.
It's a beta sure but… this is not to encouraging.

I have exporting as tiff16 so far. Have not tried jpg before. The tiff16 looks very good so far. I use tiff16 because my preferred editor is still Aperture.

Are all your jpgs looking this bad?

Gary

Hi Gary

Yes they all get this wierd effect. I think something is just buggy. I've read around the internet that the program was quite buggy at launch. Maybe something is corrupt in my download. On a good note, I actually like the user interface. Hopeful but not encouraged at this point.

Hummmm...

I will play around w/ converting some jpgs to c if I can recreate your problem.

Well I tried some Tiffs now as well and get the same result. I will remove the program and try to re-instal it. The download link I have was emailed to me from Lionel at Phaseone. Does anyone have a link they found elsewhere?

interesting. mine is also build 64747. I received and installed it on January 1.
As an Aperture user, I like what I see from CO7. If the final is looking good I could see making the switch to this program for RAW conversion overall. I Much prefer this UI over LR4 although A3 is still the cleanest for cataloging and sharing.

Since we are both using same build, I wonder if it is hw related. I am on a dual core i5, 3.6 ghz with 8gb of memory running lion os..

+1 on the c1 vs LR observation. I to am an aperture user and hope one day apple steps up to the plate.
