Well I have damaged my old cable release, I use it for quite a lot of stuff and like the 20 inch length. Well I have been looking for a replacement and everybody is out of stock of them, well the decent ones. Wanting a Gepe but all that is available is the Linof version and $86 is an amount I am not prepared to spend but if anyone out there swears by the Linof brand, please tell me why and I might just have to spend that amount.

The Linhof release is excellent. However, the main reason to buy it is the quick release system available on some "modern" large format lenses - it simply clicks in and out of place rather than having to constantly screw in and out. It can also be used as a traditional screw in release of course. $86 is absurd money for a cable if you aren't using the Linhof quick release system lenses. You could probably find a gently used one for about $30 that would last a long time, they are very well built. Hope that helps.

I just looked on B&H’s website and they have a number of cable releases in stock in a wide price range. If you’re specifically looking for around 20” I saw three different ones there in stock (aside from the Linhof brand).

Here is the 20” Gepe they have in stock: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/272790-REG/Gepe_602020_Cloth_Covered_Cable_Release.html

I did see that one but that cloth covering makes me suspicious of its durability. Really wanting a metal covering or plastic.
I have a feeling that like buggy whip manufacturers, these people have gone out of business.

The old Prontor cable releases are excellent and a good match on my 500C/M and EL/M.

Yesterday I broke my Hasselblad Double Cable Release it was made by Prontor I'm pretty sure. Luckiy I found a nice one for $25. I use it on the 135mm Bellows Planar T*
