I am travelling California for the first time and would be interested to hear from you what is worth seeing in terms of galleries, museums etc on photography.

AND of course I need GASstations in LA and SF. Where are the best places to buy used equipment?

SF Museums: SF MOMA; The Legion of Honor; De Young Museum; California Academy of Science; there's also a new HUUUGEE gallery of photographs off of pier 24, i think it might be the largest in the country but i dont know if it is officially open yet (email them for a tour though if theyre not booked by now)

LA Museums: LACMA; Annenberg Space for Photography (HIGHLY recommend this place for photogs); the Getty, the Getty Villa (need an appointment); MOCA

As for used equipment, none of the stores that I've visited are all THAT great that i would recomment them if specifically looking for used gear. For gear in general in LA, the popular ones are Samy's camera, Calumet, Pro Photo, Bel Air Camera

The farther north you go, the happier your camera will be! Stay close to the coast or to the Sierra Nevada. Have a GREAT time.

Getty currently has an exhibit of Documentary Photographers from the last 40 years.

If you shoot film, stock up on film from Freestyle.

24th July is also PhotoWalk Day -- join fellow photogs to for some street photography -- many locations throughout the world. I plan to go to the one in Pasadena.

Of course the Rayko gallery in San Francisco, just two blocks from the MOMA. They also always have an interesting selection of vintage cameras.

@kxl: I planned to visit Freestyle and expeced good prices but when I looked at the homepage I realised that prices are higher than in Austria. But maybe thats the exchange rate.
