I'm thinking of getting an R-D1s but i'd like some help from experienced users:

My rationale for wanting to go digital is the chance to take more and more shots to experiment and improve my technique and "eye" in photography. Setting myself the goal of creating a portfolio that would be accepted by stock agencies seems a challenging and fun way of focussing my hobby.

I know that the R-D1 allows the use of amazing lenses, but is the camera's sensor capable of delivering the large files required for stock photos?

Anyone had experience selling their R-D1 work to agencies? Please share your thoughts and experiences.

The r-d1 outputs 6MP files which is enough for most stock agencies.

Getty's have a minimum spec of 8.2MP (specifically, so they say, to accomodate the Canon 1DmarkII) - but in fact they want 50MB tiff files - I've got away with upsizing the tiffs to 50MB and they really don't know the difference.

If you make 16 bit tiffs from the RAW files, it's not much of a change, and the quality's definitely good enough from the R-D1, which I use.

Other stock agencies will probably be less demanding, so you should be OK.
