I will be doing some camping and hiking this summer and am in need of a good camera backpack.

I will be carrying at least 2 Leica M-bodies possibly 3 and lens in focal length of 15-135mm and a 400mm f/5 Telyt with Visoflex. It will also need to have room for film and small accys such as hoods, filters, etc.

Any suggestions??

I bought an ThinkTank Airport Antidote and it can store an amazing amount of gear for its size and it is very light. It can easily swallow the gear you mentioned. Don't know if it is suitable for camping and hiking as it probably wasn't meant for that sort of thing but it is very well made and seems pretty tough. Comes with a ton of dividers too.

recently i just purchased a national geographic medium backpack, other than i have to duct tape the logo, the pack is a dream.

it fits 2 medium format camera with lens detached, or a complete slr with 3 or 4 lenses. your gears will definitely fit. check it out.

I've got a Lowepro small backpack which should fit this kit fine. Quite comfortable and weatherproof, in excellent plus shape. I'd love to get it out of the gear closet, I haven't used it in two years. Make me a reasonable offer.

Edit: to be precise I've got the LowePro Mini Trekker AW with the tripod holder (a fold down cloth bucket & strap) in Green/Black.

I buy climbing packs because they are better designed than camera packs and I use padded inserts. I would also look at a lumbar pack like the Mountainsmith Tour.

Hiking, based from a motel or car, that's photo backpack time. Camping? Look into a small Pelican case.

I ended up buying a water proof back pack today at of all places Wolf Camera. The bag is a little overkill sizewise for what I need but it was the only water proof bag they had..

I'll be able to carry one or more extra bodies as backup.

I believe this one is a size up from the one you have.

I would definitely second the referral for Mountainsmith.. I use one of their messenger bags as my main camera bag.. and I had one of their larger camera backpacks for my DSLR gear.. the backpack was highly over-engineered, the same way a BMW is.. the zippers were top quality.. the inserts were well designed.. and the padding in the shoulderstraps were just right.. it also had a waiststrap to keep it snug against your back.. something very important on long hikes, and often overlooked in camera backpacks.. it also had an integral raincover, which I never had to try out

check them out at www.ebags.com where I've found the best prices for their gear
