Camera shops in Tallinn Estonia

I'm off to Tallinn for a couple weeks of fun and would like to drop in on a few shops to check out the local fare. Anyone been there lately and have a recent list of good shops?

Cheers,

I think Photopoint is a good start (www.photopoint.ee). There may be others. The addresses are under the "Kauplused" link in the menu bar.

And Tallinn for a few weeks? Gee, you need a least one photographic project and some serious bar hopping to survive, then... :D

If you aren't already familiar with the country, then visit Narva, go to Tartu, Viljandi, Pärnu also... And the isles. Not to mention that Riga is only a (longish) daytrip away.

Wow, someone actualy wants to come to Tallinn :D

Check out Jaama market. Lots of old cameras there. Mostly FSU though. Its right next to the Old Town. Its should be visible from the Patkuli viewing platform.

I could show you where the stores are, but im leaving for a week.
There is Fotomeister next to the department store (which is next to the Viru center). There is Fotohaus somewhere too. Photopoint is probably the best place to get film. There is one in Ülemiste center near the airport. There is one more in Tondi (this one has used gear too). To get there sit on tram number 4 (Ülemiste-Tondi direction. Should be written on the tram, but im not sure.). Go off at Kalev stop, and its about 100 meters from there.

Wow, I appreciate the pointers on where to go. My brother has lived there for 5 years now so he should be able to find these locations. To tell you the truth, I'm not leaving for Tallinn until June 10 and will be there to the 24th.

Cheers,

This is a very old thread, but seems to be the only one popping up concerning FSU cameras and Tallinn.

I have been there for a couple of days now and my conclusion is; Don't bother.

First off, Jaam-marked (which seems to be driven by Russians?) does indeed have some shops that sell old FSU cameras, among other strange FSU nicknacks (and probably a lot of fake stuff too).
Though, the prices are insane.

The asking price for a standard Zorki with the industar-22 is €50 (!).

That is, zorkis feds and other cameras that have not been CLA'd at all. That kind of gear is worth €10, at best. Most of the cameras I tinkered with were hard to focus, as the lenses hardly even moved.

Outside of Jaam, in the old town , thee are several Antique dealers.

As in Jaam, they sell all kinds of stuff, old soviet military memorobilia, stuff they claim to be genuine ww2 german military stuff (most likely fake) and, FSU cameras.
Prices are the same there, Zorki 1 start at €50-65 and no CLA.
- I even saw one shop (at the square in old town, flashing a sign that said REAL antiques), selling a genuine, gold plated Leica III, surely, that $16 million camera isn't just a pained up Zorki ? LoL

My conclusion is that Tallinn isn't the place to look for good FSU gear, thee are no Jupiter lenses here and the prices are outrageous, my Zorki, bought from eBay, would probably sell for € 100 here, seeing it's spotless and very well serviced. (Bought off eBay for half the running prices here).

....just wanted to ad some updates to this old thread, should anyone else stumble on it before a trip to the Baltic's ^^
