I was wondering how a leather or cord like material straps feel on your skin and do they stay up on your shoulder.

it's a personal thing.
re. the upstrap, it is very good and strong. I stay away from leather. It an get moldy when wet, it can be cut, etc.

A novel idea is to use one of these, 1 inch wide and easily converted to a camera strap. Soft and pliable, tough as hell and great value for money.

i use the round lance straps and they feel fine against my skin.
i wear my straps over the shoulder so they never fall off and being round they slide easily from front to back with a slight tug.
round just seems to be the smartest way to do things...
