Hi. Bought a Canon 135mm f3.5 LTM lens w/UV filter to use with Leica IIIC.
A Big 135mm Bang for small bucks - Link at bottom of article to Heliopan 48mm Metal Lens Hoods. Found one on Ebay / UK for 13.00.
Discovered lens hood screws into lens only if the UV filter is removed. What would you do?
1) UV Filter / no lens hood? 2) Lens hood / no UV Filter?
3) Is it wrong to use a shiny lens hood vs black lens hood?
Interesting note: seems to focus rangefinder coupled!!!

A UV filter only attenuates the glare. A hood blocks it, unless you are shooting almost directly into the sun. I'd use just the hood, if you are shooting towards the sun. If not, the filter keeps the length of the lens smaller. These 135/3.5 Canons are about the sharpest lenses I've ever used.

Usually, the filter has threads on the front and back. This allows you to mount the filter on the lens, and screw the hood onto the filter. Your filter seems to be lacking a front screw thread. I'd just buy another 48mm filter as the solution.

When Leica mismatched black/silver on the M6(?) bodies, people called it "The Panda," so now you have a Canon 135mm Panda.

Just buy a new filter. A multi-coated one, while you're at it. You will discover that this is a GREAT lens, if it focuses OK. It's maybe the most under-rated lens I have ever had (I have had two) It might need a bit of focus cam adjustment, though.

As I see it: If you keep the lens hood on all the time, forget the filter. The hood will reduce the glare and provide plenty of protection to the front lens element. If you take the hood off at times as for storage or other reasons, then get a filter with both front and back threads as previously suggested.

Hi. Another question - when I attach the 135mm lens to the Leica3c body, the center of the lens is off. 1:30 vs 12:00. Checked other lens 25mm and 35mm - both at centered at 12:00.

Get a 48-49mm step-up ring and then you have easy access to a huge range of filters and hoods.
Also Canon had a habit of making their lenses mount with the centre markings off to the left (as seen from the photographer's PoV) so that they could be seen through the viewfinder.
