I have a 35/2 LTM, bought from Eb*y some months ago in "mint" condition. Perfect glass, with original caps and case. Problem was, a pin in the aperture mechanism is broken, and the unscrupulous seller would not take it back. It has been sitting on Mark Hama's repair table, waiting for a donor lens.

Anyone with, or know of, an unappreciated canon rf lens (with functioning aperture, of course)? I can imagine any canon rf lens of similar size (40mm filter thread size) would be suitable. The uglier the better.

I have since found, and use, a "user" 35/2, which I am happy with. I will likely sell the lens after it has been repaired. I will not sell the broken lens on eb*y. If anyone has a donor lens and is interested, you'd get first dibs - the lens will be sold at cost. I just want to recover the money tied up in that lens.

bummer!
that totally sucks.

i wish i could help out but i don't really have a lens to spare. plus, that 35/2 is gonna be expensive if you hope to get all your money back.
ebay cost + repair = ?

Joe,

I know. To be upfront, I got the lens for a reasonable price on ebay and Mark estimates $70 for the repair. That's why I am looking for the cheapest possible parts lens. Realistically, I will probably take a loss. But the alternative is to be stuck with a non-functioning lens.

Joe,

From my conversation with Mark Hama, he described the pin as being part of the iris assembly, that actuates the aperture blades. I suppose the answer to your question would be yes. I will need to ask him exactly what lenses, aside from a 35mm f/2 would be a suitable donor, ie if, say, a 50/1.8 would have the same part.

on my 100/3.5 lens i can clearly see the pins that surround the iris assembly and allow the iris to open and close. if the lens turns out to be a a non-user for me, i might donate to the cause and maybe we could work something out on the 35/2.
i have one and like it so far, so maybe 2 would be nice also.

i hope to head out tomorrow and use the 100 so i should know more about it as soon as i process the film.
