canon 50/1.8 LTM

thanks guys. i'm always looking for lens examples on this forum, so when i got a good one, figured i'd share it. the funny thing is, i credit the scan for this one. i've been shooting with this lens for years, but this scan is a great improvement over everything before. very large, 6,300 x 4,100 pixels. about 24MP in dslr speak.

I'm digging mine that was purchased relatively cheaply a few weeks back. It has caused me to realize I probably don't need the 50mm zeiss that I was coveting. Nice way to save more than $400.

This is not the first time I've regretted selling my 50/1.8 "Serenar".

Which version of the 50/1.8 LTM did you use? There were three:

...I forget if the optical formula changed at all, but the number of aperture blades, and probably construction technique, certainly did.

Nice image, incidentally.

Can't say, necessarily; what you see is usually what you have. Sometimes iris blades are hard to count, though, in my experience. I've only ever had v.1; perhaps another v.2 owner can count blades?

Nice to see that performance from the v.2 of this lens; it's usually more affordable, if history is any guide.

joe,
i think it is ver.2. f22 min. aperture. but i think i count 13 iris blades. am i counting wrong?

I believe the early versions of the black Canon 50mm f/1.8 LTM has 13 blades. Serial number in the early 200000. Those after 250000 no longer have that many aperture blades. The number of blades varied along the production.

Cheers,

got back a really good scan from costco today. looks like i'll be putting off that dslr purchase for the meantime.

(for some reason the image looks way too soft with i embed the link in the message box)

There is, to my eye, no digital camera that can do as good a job as that. Film still really is the best medium for the photographic image even in the 21st century. Great shot, brilliant lens.

Ah, interesting - we should have you give the folks over at the Canon Camera Museum a lesson or two...thanks!

Just for the record, mine is a heavy chrome non-Serenar with 11 🙂o oops, make that 10) blades. I believe it was made in 1953. (So was I)
