Hmmm ... unusual approach. Maybe Leica should have held back and not tripped over themselves to get the M8 onto the market so hastily and spent more time tantalising us with this sort of stuff and ironing out the bugs ... we would have waited! :p

It worked really well when Nikon did it with the D3 and D300.... it was 20 days until the announcement

They had a count down from 20 days a silhouette at first and would show slightly more of the camera every week

but good approach by canon (the whole eclipse symbolism)

It will be interesting to see how the successor of the 5D bridges the gap between the newly introduced 15.1mp 50D and the 21.1 mp 1Ds MKIII.

*sigh* it doesn't look like a 1-series body with the vertical grip chopped off. the carrot remains firmly out of reach.

Judging by one of those silly dials on the left side( if you were holding it) of the camera I would wager a guess thats its something like the D90.

I dont know about anyone else but I am happy to see a new 5D coming out, my gf's 5D is great and even though I am on the fence on going to the D700 mainly because of legacy and high iso performance, I waver because if the new 5D can have good high iso, less color noise and zero banding problems, then I will be quite tempted, but this is all assuming that a new DRF is not coming in the next year or so when I will be able to afford something like this.

Look on the UK canon site - it shows what looks to be a different camera with no mode dial. This would indicate a 1v series style grip type camera. Rumour is there will be 2 of them. One like a 50d with a FF sensor, and the other a eos 1v digital style with half grip and 1d build.

I'm tempted by the d700 as well but have been stung by the d300 in the past and it's wonky color palette.
