I have recently bought a Canon 135/3.5 lens for my Canon 7. I'd welcome confirmation that this lens' distance scale should be set to the nearest limit before screwing it onto the camera - even though doing so the part of the lens which activates the focusing mechanism protrudes slightly. I hope this is how it should be....

Is this true for all Canon lenses or only telephotos? I somehow assumed that the focus lock on my 1.8 50mm was supposed to be engaged (ie focus at infinity) when unmounting/mounting the lens -- am I wrong?

Only for the ones with the short separate cam on back. The ones with a continuous strip all around the lens don't slap the cam follower every time around.
