Very Very Good job. Night shots and dark interiors are what this lens was designed for. Enjoy!
Indeed~! I foud i just fall in love with this lens. Becasue i always love to shoot at night and dark interiors. This lens give me enough light to shoot at higher speed.

Hey kevin

Seems like focusing on the 0.95 is tough...can see that if de focusing is slightly off...then the pic would have gone into oof..the depth of field is so shallow that requires very accurate focusing.

I believe the distance u shoot at is not at the minimum focus distance rite? Want try a big head portrait at 0.95 to see how the depth of field is?:)

Those are very good, congratulations on the beautiful camera set!

You will get used to focusing with it, but you may want to make sure that the RF is adjusted properly just in case. The lens has a very long throw, that seems like trouble at first, but it actually helps you the zero in on the subject.

Here are some shots I took a while back with a 7/0.95 setup at night. Unfortunately I sold that setup, and I am about to sell my m-converted 0.95 (in the classifieds now :) ).

Haha. Thanks for your watching and comments~ It's hard to focous through the viewfinder in the night. It will be better if the light is enough. I don't know the actual depth of field this 0.95 have. So yes, I will try a big head next time ~

Thanks for your sharing . Great shoots~!!!

focusing the 0.95 takes a bit of practice, it can be really slow. the best is to prefocus to a distance it's more likely that you will be shooting from, this way you cut some focusing time. also important is to keep steady while pressing the button, if you lean forward or back, chances are focus will be off. i've found the canon 7 not to be as easy to focus as a more modern rangefinder (leica m, zeiss ikon, bessa, rd1, hexar rf..) since the focus patch is not as contrasty. that's why i've decided to convert mine to be used on another body. it can be a real headache to have the lens converted >> hint to possible gdi lens' buyers ;)

the shots youve posted are quite nice, and considering moving targets you did a pretty good job! what i strongly recommend is that you use at least iso 400 with this lens, so you can get faster shutter speeds at night. i usually have superia 800 on my cameras, and i shoot at 1/60 at 0.95. this gives me well exposed shots and still you can freeze some movement and eliminate camera shake. this helps a lot!

if you search my flickr for the lens (check out the tv version set) you'll see some shots in nyc taken in this setting i've mentioned.

gdi, these shots are amazing... are you sure you won't have seller's remorse? ;)

my 0.95 has a cement separation, which shows off on light balls as a darker spot, but even so i really like what this lens does. a shame i sold my rf version couple years ago, by now i could have a mint copy, with the insides of the rf and front/back element of the tv... :/ but hey, it delivers, and that's what matters :)

Deeply thanks for your kindly comments~ I will follow your suggestion to see how i can make a good use of this dream lens.

Seem there are many 0.95 user in this forum~ Wish we can share more pictures taken by this lens and we can have more funny discussion~

Cheers~

You've got the better scans there gdi, some of Kevin's are a bit flat - to me, makes comparisons a bit pointless.

There's also a Canon 50/0.95 group on Flickr. Lots of photos there.

Yeah, I really wasn't trying to do a full comparison, just showing the focus accuracy in general. So, for that it is pointful :)

Also, I used a faster, more contrasty film - Kodak UC400 - that is no longer available as far as I know (other than my freezer, that is). This, too, could definitely contribute to the look as well as the scans.

Yes I will have remorse !

I decided I just don't use it enough to justify it when I want to buy another piece of gear. This lens is finally coming into its own after many years of insufficient respect.

I had the same issues with my Canon 7S, on which the silvering of the RF patch is rather dull, making it hard to align the images in low light. I have had my 0.95 converted to M-mount, making things *much* better. Of course, this doesn't help unless you have an M-mount camera.

This has come up before, but, for me, the hard-edge viewfinder patch of the Leica M makes for easier and more precise focusing than the soft-edge patch of the Canon 7/7s.

And, as you would expect, this lens is one that has to be precisely adjusted for the best quality pics wide-open. I had Ken Ruth modify my old TV 50/0.95 to fit my M3 and he told me that mount-to-film plane accuracy is measured in hundreds of a millimeter. If you shoot most of your pics at 0.95 (as you should….why else buy a 0.95 lens?), it almost pays to have a 50/0.95 lens custom-fit to one camera.
