I accidentally pushed in the gray plastic window (the middle one-- I think it's for projected framelines) on my Canon 7. It was loose for a while, but after sitting on the shelf for a few weeks, I used it again, and the window now no longer seems loose, but stuck to the frame with an offset-- not exactly in the right spot. Since then, the coupled rangefinder focus seems to be way off. Specifically, the 2 images do not converge at infinity. And at closer than infinity, the rangefinder focus clearly does not correspond to actual lens focus, as evidenced by my roll of out-of-focus images.

Are these 2 symptoms related? Does the middle window play a part in coupled focus? Or is it as I thought, that it's only for projected framelines? Is this something I can adjust myself? Any thoughts?

I just looked at my Canon 7s repair manual (which shares the same viewfinder/rangefinder) and there are linkages and some optics directly behind the frameline's window. Maybe these were knocked off-kilter when the window made contact. You'll probably have to take the top plate off and take a look.

Thanks Jim. I'll have to locate a Repair Manual for the 7, to see if I'm ready to tackle the job myself.
