Can anyone tell me whether the selenium meter of the Canon 7 can be repaired and, if so, who can do it and how much it will cost.

Thanks

Lawrence

Are you sure that the cell is dead? I had two Canon 7's that "looked" dead, but it turned out the cells were good. The Cell comes off with the top plate, and the contacts to one of the camera body had corroded. Clean it up, works great. The second had a bent "baffle" plate blocking the meter movement. I removed the baffle plate, and it was fine. I would check with some of the "specialty" shops like Essex. Henry Scherer will replace the selenium cell of the Contax, if anyone knows where to get Selenium Cells, he is the guy.

Thanks, Brian, for your quick reply. I live in the UK and bought it from a guy on eBay in the US. He said it was working when it left him but when it arrived it was dead. Other than the meter not working, the camera was virtually mint, so I'm inclined to believe him. Apparently selenium cells can be affected by air pressure and perhaps going by air freight (FedEx) didn't do it much good. I'm also curious to hear from anyone who has actual experience of having one repaired.

If it went dead "just like that", my money would be on the contacts or the baffle plate rubbing against the galvenometer. That baffle plate is very then and bends easily. The slightest friction against the neddle jams it into position.
