Similar problem with a spring took me a 2 days last time. So I was stressed for a moment.
Because no tip was forthcoming, I decided to get started myself.
After 2 or 3 times I understood the system. Much easier than expected. The counter is working again.
First roll up the spring and place it in the gear as shown in the photo.
Then place the gear. With tweezers you prevent the spring from falling out.
Then turn it about 2 turns anti-clockwise. Lift the sprocket by ½ mm at the protruding cam.
The cam prevent the counter from rotate freely, and limits the turning circle to approximately 300 degrees
