Canon 7 user manual?

Sorry if this is a FAQ, but does anyone know where I can get (download?) a user manual for a Canon 7?

I've managed to find manuals for all of the older Canon cameras that I've aquired, but I've drawn a blank with one for the Canon 7

Also, what is the name for the lens mount on the 7 and the likes of the IV? I know of EF, EF-S, FD etc., but I don't know what this type of mount is called

Hello,

There are no downloadable manuals for the Canon 7, but there really isn't much to figure out on the 7. http://www.mediajoy.com/en/cla_came/canon7/index.html is a good how-to that has everything an official manual would have.

T_om was going to scan the official manual, but I've heard nothing about that lately.

Welcome to RFF & I hope you enjoy your 7 even half as much as I do mine - you'll be very happy indeed!

My first post was about film loading on the Canon IV, but I have to admit that I haven't even managed to open the 7 yet because I didn't know to "pull down the lever at the side of the camera body" 🙂

Undernieth the base plate is a latch - turn it so that the little protrusion at the bottom of the side latch is pulled in. It's a double locked latch. Once it's out of the way, you pull down on the latch and the back will swing open.

Ah, I hadn't noticed the latch underneath. I was pulling the film spool up loke on newer SLRs

Now that it's open I'm wondering if the 7 should have light seal material or if it doesn't need it

I've have recent experience of poor or missing light seals on slightly newer Canons

Doesn't need it, IIRC. I have film in mine or I'd check. How wrinkled is your shutter? Most get wrinkled and it has to be really bad before it hurts anything.

I'm still looking for my copy of the manual. It was the B&H/Canon 7 version (same as regular, just with B&H branding included)

I have no idea how it could have gotten misplaced, but then if I knew that, I'd know where it was, eh?

How wrinkled is your shutter? Most get wrinkled and it has to be really bad before it hurts anything.

When I open back the shutter is mint. When in wind on the second shutter is perfectly flat, but there's very slight scuffing marks on it.

The bit I'm struggling to figure out is the exposure meter, but it might make more sense to me in the daylight tomorrow, rather than trying to figure it out indooors tonight. The small figures and my eyesight don't help much either.

I'll try to make a pdf file out of the copy and make it available to others.

Yeah, the meter scales on the 7 and 7s are really small. Very hard to read the f-stop numbers, I can't focus close enough anymore to really read them well.

There's a range switch on the back, the little notched button. I think the two notches are color coded to match which aperture scale to use. (The 7s' range switch is around the CDS cell.)

The reason for the turn latch on the bottom isn't to make the back more secure. It's to open and close the re-usable metal film magazines. (Canon Film Magazine V.) They are quite different from the ones for the bottom loaders. I love using these on all my LTM cameras.
