There's more to focusing ease than base length alone -- magnification plays a big role, and clarity and brightness also are factors.
Also, a rangefinder patch with sharply-defined edges (e.g. Leica Ms and current Bessas, but not the Canon, Nikon, Fed or Zorki) allows more accurate focusing
if the subject contains vertical lines, because you can use the edge of the patch as a "split-image rangefinder" and the eye does a better job of judging split than it does of judging coincidence.
